Alex Merton – Solicitor
Alex’s first degree was in English Literature & History from the University of Dundee. Realising (too late) that he did not want to be a teacher, and facing the harsh reality of the graduate job market, Alex studied Law at the University of Glasgow, where he graduated in 2019 with Distinction, thereafter completing the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice the following year.
Alex joined Mitchells Roberton in February 2026 as a Solicitor in our Private Client Department, after having trained at a large Scottish independent legal firm, where he qualified in 2023.
Alex advises clients on the full gamut of Private Client matters including the preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney, estate planning, and the creation and administration of trusts. Alex has a lot of experience in administering estates, including complex and contentious varieties. He takes pride in his approachability and easy manner, both of which are fundamental when assisting families through the process of winding up their loved one’s estate.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys more novel hobbies. He has recently taken up Historical European Martial Arts (antiquated sword fighting), which makes him a singularly annoying Dungeons & Dragons player, owing to the realism he demands in combat! Aside from his geeky hobbies, Alex is married to a kindred spirit who is also able to furnish him with delicious whisky through her employment – he chose well. Most importantly, Alex has a labradoodle called Sully who he dotes on endlessly.
