We are very sad to announce that Bob Maxwell, has at the age of 86 decided to retire from Mitchells Roberton. Bob joined us after giving up work as a Regional Manager with Strathclyde Transport when he was 59 and has been with us for the last 27 years- which is truly amazing. Bob multitasked every afternoon, helping to keep the office running smoothly in all sorts of ways: mastering the various evolutions of our franking machines and the ever complicated postal rates, charts, letter sizes and special forms of posting, keeping filing for loose leaf statutes and other library resources updated accurately and promptly, filing bank statements and dividend vouchers, and generally acting as “Bob the Builder” successfully being able repair any broken items brought to him. Bob was also out and about in all weathers visiting the post office, taking the banking and doing endless deliveries. Distance and weather never put him off and he was always cheerfully willing to help us all.
Bob loves Scotland, its history, poetry, music and particularly Oban, Mull, Iona and the surrounding areas.
Not having him around the office any more will indeed be the end of an era and he will be sorely missed by all of us as well as the many friends he made on his daily duties.
